This was an experiment to pour concrete over the top of existing countertops. Now the diy concrete countertops will dry overnight and they will be ready for the sealer. When i say bond the concrete you are lying on top off needs to be a rough finish like scabbled. In the video below i poured a new stamped concrete patio slab right over the old existing concrete.

I found it was easier to apply the sealer and finish by pouring it in a line instead of trying to spread out a puddle. With the roller sleeve still saturated roll the front edge of the counter then lightly push the thin line of epoxy over the edge. The old concrete was over 20 years old. It was originally poured in multiple sections so it had some seams that looked like cracks.

Check that the base coat is an even thickness throughout the top. You want to make sure you have enough product so your counter appears. You can suspend the steel mesh from these screws after you ve poured in half of your concrete. Engineer if you are laying pouring concrete over existing concrete there needs to be a bond.

There are a couple cracks but all concrete cracks. All opinion are 100 my own. Thoroughly clean the steel mesh using steel wool and acetone. Drill screws every 4 6 inches around the top of your mold.

Most of all i love the industrial look the diy concrete countertops add to the kitchen and especially the variation and imperfections in the surface of course. Concrete countertops are often the domain of professionals but you can create a concrete overlay on an existing tiled countertop with a few humble supplies and materials. Anybody can get rid of the existing surface to develop. Now we have done several concrete countertops before and have removed the old countertop and poured a whole new one. More on the sealer in the next post completion photos posted here as well. And i must say it has worked out so far.
